Planning Your Wedding Day

Tips For Prolonging Your Tan

If you have spent the time and money at a tanning salon, you want to be sure that the beautiful glow that you have obtained lasts as long as possible. Here are some tips for making sure that you are able to prolong your tan.

1. Pat Your Skin When Drying

The first thing that you need to do is reduce abrasion on your skin. Only the tops layers of skin have that healthy tan and if you remove them too quickly, you are going to lose your color. You can simply use a towel to pay yourself dry, rather than rubbing hard on your skin to get rid of the water or sweat. This method is not as abrasive and will not remove the top layers of your skin as quickly.

2. Tan Slowly

You don't want to go to the tanning salon or tan by the pool and get exactly the color you want, only to have it peel off within a matter of days. You need to avoid sun damage as much as possible and the easiest way to do that is to tan slowly. Get a little bit of color every day at the salon or outside. Use a lot of moisturizer in between your tanning sessions to add moisture to your skin and protect it from drying out and peeling off. This method is not as dramatic as going from pale to bronzed in a few hours but tends to be your best bet for keeping your skin looking tan and beautiful for as long as possible.

3. Use Skin Products That Encourage the Production of Melanin

The last thing that you can try is to use products that encourage the production of melanin. Melanin is a pigment in a person's skin that gives him or her that bronzed look. You want as much of this pigment in your skin as possible if you are trying to look tan. Apply these products to your tanned skin after you shower and have lightly patted yourself dry in order to make sure that you are applying it to clean skin so that you don't accidentally cause yourself to break out. Consider using products that also have a little bit of bronzer in them in order to increase the appearance of your current tan.

For more information, talk to a company that specializes in tanning. They will have products that will help prolong the specific tan that they have provided.
